Yep you're talking to the queen of leftovers here lately! lol! I try and use EVERYTHING in my fridge first, then work on a few days of cupboard food till we HAVE to go shopping. It definitely is a switching of thinking.

I usually play the dog biscuits by ear, changing it each time depending on what we have on hand for 'flavor' (whether gravy, cheese or peanut butter) but I'll make a note of the amounts as I am due to make some today. My two love em!

On a side note, I harvested my first radishes yesterday!!

Di:

You make an excellent point about the salad, and it's important for me to rethink how I think about things so that I waste as little as possible.

I did have some of the salad for lunch today, along with the leftover chicken breast from last night's dinner. But you're right--I should have pushed of the French toast to another night's dinner and used up the salad. It should stay fresh for Wednesday dinner, and I'll be sure to serve it, regardless of what we're having.

Hey, have you ever posted your recipe for homemade dog biscuits? I'd love to give them a go!

Thanks for commenting.

Leah

I do the 10 day grocery shop and sometimes I can stretch it to 14 days. I guess its a matter of using what's on hand. That salad in the fridge that would work for tonights meal, will it go bad for tomorrow? If so I'd postpone the french toast and use the salad. It's about using the fresh items first and them eeking everything out till it's time to shop again.
I went shopping last Monday (28 july) and I need to go again soon and plan on going Thursday. The only thing I NEED is tomatoes but by Thursday I will need other stuff, so I make do till then

Oh and cook from scratch! I make dog biscuits, pizza dough, and even made my own marinara last week (hence out of tomatoes).

Pleasure of saving - that's very true.
I used to make french toast a lot when my kids were young and we had very little income. It was easy, cheap, and fairly nutritious if I didn't go overboard with syrup! Sourdough bread from the day-old store made the best french toast in those days.

Hi Leah,

thanks for linking to my blog, I'm having a lot of fun with it.

I think you could probably get away with using less eggs. and less bread. We had tons of leftovers, and I ended up freezing some for easy breakfasts once school starts up again.

I hope it works out well for you!
xox
steph
