The Fresh Ideas Group in Boulder sent me their trend predictions for 2009, including this cute out/in chart (left).
I have to say that I agree with a lot of what they’re predicting will be in in 2009, including:
* bartering: I’m already talking with people I know about how I can barter my services for products or services they have and that I want–but don’t want to spend money for (cheap bastard, I know).
* home fitness: I’ll be the first to admit that buying my kids a Wii for Christmas wasn’t the cheapest present around. However, as far as exercise goes, I’ve never been more dedicated to a fitness program. The Wii Fit is exactly what I’d been looking for, ever since I gave up the gym years ago. Now, in the comfort of my own home, I can take a step class, do boxing, practice some yoga and more for a helluva lot less money than I would pay for a gym membership.
* organic everywhere: With the price of groceries up across the board, organics aren’t that much more expensive these days. That’s why whenever given the choice between “regular” produce and the organic kind, I go with organic. Check out this blog posting from last year in which I list the top 20 foods that absorb pesticides–and why you should try to buy the organic version of them whenever possible.
What are some of your thoughts on this in/out list and how it meshes with your frugal outlook for 2009?
