Do you remember that book, “What Color is Your Parachute”? It was the book to read when you were about to graduate college and go on the job market, or for when you were thinking of switching careers and needed to figure out what field to pursue. The book never quite worked for me, because I always knew what I wanted to do–write. But I remember it being an enjoyable read.
What made me think about this book today was this new widget I’d discovered (via a Smart Brief on Social Media article) that allegedly tells you what your blog says about you, or what color is your blog parachute. Here’s how that widget works: you type your blog’s address into Typealyzer, and it comes up with a personality assessment for your blog.
When I typed in Suddenly Frugal, here’s what I got:
ESFP – The Performers
The entertaining and friendly type. They are especially attuned to pleasure and beauty and like to fill their surroundings with soft fabrics, bright colors and sweet smells. They live in the present moment and donĀ“t like to plan ahead – they are always in risk of exhausting themselves.
The enjoy work that makes them able to help other people in a concrete and visible way. They tend to avoid conflicts and rarely initiate confrontation – qualities that can make it hard for them in management positions.
I think the analysis was pretty spot on, except for the planning ahead part, and the decorating stuff. But this analysis got me thinking, dear reader: is this blog all you think that it should be? What’s missing from this blog? Or what would you like to see more of in the coming days, weeks and months? I’d love to get your feedback so that I can ensure that the color of my blog parachute is what you’ve always envisioned it to be.

I agree, College students should plan out this early what career they shall pursue in the future. To prepare them of the ‘real’ world that is.
My blog is ESFP too and I definitely don’t agree with the planning ahead thing either.
i think it is good to want to please your readers, but isn’t part of the joy of blogging getting to write what you want to write? i think if you are “performing” in a way that is pleasing to you than your writing will be a pleasure to read…
Melanie:
Fair enough. However, as a trained journalist and service writer for national magazines, my natural inclination is always to please my readers, which is why I want to make sure I’m offering content that they find valuable. But you’re right–I do find pleasure in writing the blog, and I hope the readers find the same pleasure in reading it.

Hey Leah,
Interesting post……….I’ve been waiting for an update on your challenge not to spend any extra money.
Otherwise, I especially like your “green” posts, saving it (ie, money) and preserving it (ie, the planet).
Funny you would ask about our no new spending month challenge, because I was just thinking about that yesterday and wondering if I should do an update right at the end of March, before then or later in April. I think I’ll do a wrap up of that early next week. But in case you were wondering, the challenge has been, well, challenging, and while not 100% true to the mission, we’ve cut our spending significantly. More about that next week. Thanks for your comment.

Very interesting. I entered our two blogs. Our WordPress blog came out the same as yours, ESFP. Our other blog which is on our main website came out as ESTP, the Doers. I didn’t see the definitions of the letters anywhere, I wonder what they mean.
Im an ESEP, a “doer.” I guess that fits with my goal word for the year, Action. I wonder what my poetry blog says about me?
I meant ESTP. My poetry blog, A Mother’s Garden of Verses, turned out exactly the same. Hmm. Think, think, think…
How funny! I plugged in all three of my personal blogs and came out as a Mechanic all three times. I laugh because I THOUGHT they were all different, but ‘guess not, huh? LOL
