Last week we decided to take a staycation by visiting Lancaster County, Pennsylvania (aka Amish country). Lancaster, by the way, is less than two hours from our house. I consider that to be a staycation.
While I didn’t get any pictures of the Amish–who were out in the buggies in Bird-in-Hand and Intercourse (yes, that’s the name of the town)–I did capture some neat pictures, which I’ve uploaded below.
The first picture is of a cornfield near Paradise, PA–can you see the embedded advertising message?
The next picture is of the Strasburg Railroad, which we rode and really enjoyed. I would recommend a ride on it to anyone visiting the area.
The third picture is a dining room table made of reclaimed barn wood that we’re hoping to buy to furnish our renovated space. This table is WAY cheaper than anything we’ve seen in traditional stores. Plus, it’s pretty gorgeous, don’t you think?
Enjoy.

READ LEAH ON HOME GOES STRONG

I enjoyed seeing your pictures and to read your comments about Lancaster. I live in Lititz which is in Lancaster County. Lititz is home for Wilbur chocolate and Sturgis pretzels. If you ever get the opportunity it is a wonderful town to visit.
We’d planned to make our way over to Lititz but ran out of time. I have heard great things about it. Well, when we drive back out to Bird in Hand to buy that fabulous table, I’ll suggest we take a detour over to Lititz! Thanks.
Leah
Love the table.
Love your blog. Keep up the good work!
The design of the table is nice and similar to one I own. But I must say the color of the legs in this picture makes it look like a pale green – yuck! A white base would be much more appealing. And the blacks chairs just DO NOT go with that table at all. In fact its a rather hideous combination.
Sorry for being negative, but a true friend will always tell you the truth – not just what you want to hear.
I appreciate your feedback.
I love staycations! We’ve been doing quite a bit of that this summer. I live in south Jersey which is close to Philly and NYC so there are lots of close to home options for family fun.
Love Lancaster!
