I think Regifting is somewhat of an art. A lot depends on your occupation. I used to teach and every year I got a lifetime supply of hand creams, candles, and whatnots. This saved me a lot of time because I could regift some of of my stockpile to neighbors, grand parents, and keep them in the closet for last minute gifts.

Now I am in a totally different line of work and my "regift" closet is empty except for one snowman hand soap that looks like it has been around the block. I put it in Regift Retirement.

I don't mind one bit re-giving or re-getting a new item, as long as that item is a thoughtful gift appropriate for the receiver. If it is an item I will never use, in deference to the giver,
I will first try to exchange the item, but if that is not an option, it goes in the gift closet for an appropriate regift. And those items that just don't seem to fit anyone I know are my annual white elephant gifts, and they often find a home where they are wanted.
