Want To Be In My New Book?

I’m looking to do mini profiles of real-life people who have made money from their junk or got cash for their clutter–as you know, the topic of my next book. I’d love to hear how you cashed in on the stuff you had cluttering up your living room, dining room, kitchen, garage, basement, bedroom, home office and more.

It’s OK if you only made a few bucks from your stuff–I’d just like to talk to you about *how* you made that happen.

Please email me at leah dot ingram AT comcast dot net, and we can set up a time to talk. Feel free to forward this information to others you know who may fit the cash-for-trash profile!

As an avid reader I am always acquiring books and have been a fan of Half.com for years. It is both a source for buying books at a good price and in turn selling them. While I have not keep specific records I figure that I just about pay for the books that I buy by selling those I don’t want to keep.

    Elyse:

I would be interested in hearing more about selling books this way. I’ve only swapped books, figuring it wasn’t worth my while to sell them. Would love to hear more.

I certainly like your book: Suddenly Frugal. I would be interested in buying a book cash for junk!

On a move from the island of Oahu to Kauai, I decluttered a lot of things before packing up. I sold big ticket items on craigslist.org and the rest of the things I donated to goodwill and received receipts, which will be useful as tax deductions! Moved to Kauai with less things, money in my pocket, and hopefully more back in taxes this year :)

I had a bedspread from a popular bedding company that I ruined in the dryer. The backing melted but the front side with the pattern was still usable. I cut the material up and covered toothbrush holders, tissue boxes, trash cans and other accessories and sold them on ebay. They sold like hot cakes since it was a popular pattern and I made almost $500 from the one bedspread!

Leah, sorry to take so long getting back to you. Using half.com is pretty much like buying books from any other site. The main difference is that instead of the books coming from a retailer, for the most part they come from individual. You list a book you want to see at whatever price you want for it and if someone chooses to buy it half.com mails you with info and instructions on to whom the book gets mailed. Quarterly they deposit $$$ into a designed bank account for the items you have sold.

As a personal assistant in Bucks County I highly recommend that you keep your books weeded out just like you do your clothes or any other category of items. For hard core readers books can multiply beyond belief. Selling them in this manner helps keep their numbers down and provides the $$$ to buy the ones you currently want.
