mothers day 2012Are you a big spender on Mother’s Day? According to the National Retail Federation (NRF), many Americans are.

The NRF’s 2012 Mother’s Day consumer spending survey conducted by BIGinsight says that the average person celebrating the holiday is expected to spend $152.52 on gifts, up from $140.73 last year. Total spending is expected to reach $18.6 billion.

If you don’t quite have that kind of budget for a Mother’s Day 2012 gift, I think you’ll like these 4 free Mother’s Day gift ideas that I stumbled across. They are courtesy of the Gold Eagle Company.

  1. Get the garden ready for flowers or to plant vegetables!Get the tiller, blower, and trimmer out of the shed to spruce up the garden. Once the soil is ready, you can start planting seeds and flowers–either to surprise mom with a new garden on Mother’s Day, or to spend the actual day digging in the dirt with her.
  2. Mow the yard! Nothing is nicer than coming home to a house with good curb appeal. If Mom is the one who usually handles this chore, give her the week off by mowing the lawn for her.
  3. Pressure wash the deck, patio furniture or house. After a long winter, all types of dirt have built up on surfaces. Scrub them down and rinse them off well. Then break out the grill, cook her dinner and enjoy a nice family meal together outside!
  4. Give Mom’s car a cleaning, inside and out! Mom deserves a nice, clean ride, so start by vacuuming the inside of the car, and wiping down surfaces with a damp cloth. If you’re up for it, check all the fluids, and make sure the oil and washer fluids are full. Finally, don’t forget to do a full washing of the outside of the car, so it gleams like new in the driveway.
