The last of the sales tax holidays in August is happening this week in Connecticut. (There will be one more tax-free week in September, in Louisiana, but it’s for hunting supplies. Then in October Georgia and Virginia have tax-free days for buying energy-efficient products.)
Starting on August 19th and going through August 25th, you can shop tax free in Connecticut for certain items. To be honest, Connecticut‘s tax-free shopping holiday is pretty forward–you will not pay sales tax on clothing and footwear costing less than $300 during this period.
And the list of what the state considers to be “clothing” or “footwear” is pretty broad. For example, the following items qualify:
- aprons
- athletic socks
- bathing caps
- belts
- diapers
- formal wear (including wedding gowns
- hiking boots
- rain jackets
- scout uniforms
- socks
- ties
- underwear
You can get more details on the Connecticut Department of Revenue Services website. To all my family members and friends in Connecticut, I hope you can take advantage of these deals this week.

Shop Tax free is good for people.
