Southwest Airlines Fares on Sale

Need to get away between mid-May and mid-October? Then you may want to check out Southwest’s current fare sale, which ends May 3rd. Here are the details: you must book by May 3rd, and then you can travel May 11 through October 31, 2012. The catch (and isn’t there always one?) is that these discounted airfares are valid for travel on Tuesdays and Wednesdays only. Also, if these fares seem higher than past sale fares, it is because the fares now reflect the mandatory government taxes and fess. These fares are good in most of the cities where Southwest...

Suddenly Frugal Survey Still Open

May 1, 2012
By

I just want to remind readers that my survey “Who is the Suddenly Frugal reader?” is still open, if you would like to participate. For data purposes it would be ideal to get at least 100 people to respond; right now we’re at 77. The survey will take you less than 5 minutes, and I really appreciate being able to find out more about the dedicated folks who read this blog. I’m hoping to gather all the feedback by Friday, May 4th. Thank you.

Entertainment on the Cheap

May 1, 2012

This past weekend was my daughter’s high school prom. As with most teenagers and prom, the kids had hoped to do something special after prom, such as going to the beach. But considering that most of these kids had just received their drivers’ licenses and that the beach is about three hours from where we live, there was no way we were going to let these guys and gals get in a car at 11 o’clock at night, let alone drive that distance to the beach. Even so I understood their desire to do something special, and when they...

2012 Word Count Blogathon

For the past 5 years Michelle Rafter, a freelance writer like myself, and founder of the Word Count blog–a blog about freelancing in the digital age– has been holding an annual Blogathon in May. The notion of a Blogathon is this: people with blogs (raising hand) should be posting regularly, because their readers come to expect it. In most instances I already post 5 days a week, but I’ll admit that until I got involved with Michelle’s Blogathon, the habit of daily postings was not ingrained. I felt it was something I should be doing, not something I wanted...

New Red Plum Coupons

April 30, 2012
By

We don’t get a Red Plum coupons insert in our Sunday newspaper every week, and this past Sunday was one of those weeks. That’s why I love that I can go online and get the coupons that didn’t show up in my Sunday paper. In fact, below you’ll find some of this week’s Red Plum coupons available online, through one of my affiliate networks. In addition to Red Plum, the other insert that we get regularly in the newspaper is SmartSource Grocery Coupons. SmartSource also has complementary coupons available online for downloading and printing. Good to know if you...

They’ll be $10 each, and I’ll sign them for free. You can get more details about the talk here (the URL for my Philly on the Cheap blog is wrong, I know. They are working on it). And check out the flyer below. If you live in Central...

Suddenly Frugal’s Freebie Friday (April 27-May 3, 2012)

Oops, the intro to this post was cut and pasted–and not updated–from last week’s post. Sorry for any confusion. It’s prom week around these parts and I’ve been crazy busy all week trying to juggle work and preparing for a pre-prom party at my house tonight! Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Today is National Pretzel Day

Don’t forget: today, April 26th, is National Pretzel Day. In honor of this delicious holiday, you can get a free pretzel at Pretzelmaker! You are allowed one free pretzel per person, salted or unsalted only. You can download a list of participating locations from the Pretzelmaker National Pretzel Day website. Sadly, there are none near me so if I’m craving a pretzel, I’m going to have to get it the old fashioned way–by paying for it!
