@ Leah: My apologies. CSU = Colorado State University. We live in Fort Collins, Colorado [ love it, BTW ].

You know, after I left that comment I was thinking. We will have two in college at the same time for quite a while Our daughter is 12 so she will start while our youngest son [ Camryn - 15 ] is just finishing up.

We'll have a very short break until our 6 yo starts.. OMG.. I need another job. LOL

Not sure if this would help, but I filed my FAFSA as an independent and ended up getting loads of money for college since there was no income linked to me. I was able to attend a private school and leave with less than $20,000 in loans for all four years at a school that cost around $30,000 a year. My parents couldn't afford to help me, but their income would have hurt me and not qualify me for financial aid.

Hello Leah!
Welcome to my nightmare! I mean that in a truly genuine way...I hope you know that!
No one has acknowledged that it is IMPOSSIBLE to save for our children's college education. Both my husband and I were fortunate to have had our parents pay for our college education. A gift that we both cherish to this day. We had hoped to do the same for our children...
I love your idea of deductibility, investment in our kids is investment in our country's future.
Great post!

no matter how much we save, it never seems like enough....we have one student starting this fall---will be putting off other purchases until we get comfortable handling this extreme expense.

HI Leah, great post. We too are in the same shoes [sort of]. Our oldest, Justyn [19] will be stating at CSU in the fall and Camryn, our second oldest jjust turned 15.

Paying for two at the same time is going to be a struggle but we have been preparing for a looong time. The bottom line; CSU will be getting A LOT of our hard earned cash. Thanks again for the great post.
