Happy New Year 2010 Freebie Friday

January 1, 2010

Happy New Year to all of my Suddenly Frugal readers. Here are a handful of freebies to get you through the first week of the new year and into the new decade.

Free Wifi

Admission on the House

  • On January 2 & 3, Bank of America’s Museum on Us program gives its cardholders free admission to more than 120 leading U.S. cultural institutions, including museums, historical sites, science centers and zoos. From the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art to the Art Institute of Chicago, customers simply present their Bank of America ATM, credit or check card and a valid photo ID to gain free general admission to any participating institution. This program runs on the first weekend of every month. (Here’s a link, via Miami FL on the Cheap, to South Florida museums that are participating in this program.)

Free Food

  • Taco Bell is giving away 1 million free Fresco tacos, but you need to download this coupon in order to get the deal. Supposedly, the website will let you know once the 1 million tacos have been eaten and therefore the deal isn’t good anymore. So far, there is no notice that the deal is off so download, print and eat!
  • Enjoy free breakfast at IKEA through January 3rd. What do you actually get for free? A small breakfast and a small cup of coffee (retail value about $2) but hey, it’s free! (Thanks to the Affluent Pauper for a heads up on this deal.)

    Hi Leah,
I bought your book on New Year’s Day and I almost read the whole book in one sitting that evening. I love it. I have a tip for you…By joining ERewards.com and completing on-line surveys (as many or as little as you want – you set the average amount per week) you can earn points towards free products and services (1800 Flowers.com, magazine subscriptions, Angus burgers, airline miles, etc.). The only thing is that you have to be “invited” to apply to become a member (membership is free too). I got my “invitation” from the Continental Onepass (frequent flyer program). I’ve gotten many different free 1 yr. subscriptions (Latina, Forbes, Wine and Travel)…and the surveys are usually short and very easy. I thought I’d share that with you and your readers.
    thank you Leah.

    Sincerely, Brenda

Here’s a frugal tip for 2010: reuse your 1999 calendar. That’s the last year that began on a Friday. Of course some holidays like Easter will be different, but most everything else should be in sync. This calendar reuse strategy works well except on leap years. You’ll have to keep a lot of old leap-year calendars to make that work.
